LASWA boss clamours for non-fossil fuel boat engines

The General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, has stressed the need to introduce non-fossil fuel boat engines in the state waterways.

Emmanuel, who stated this during a recent interview with The , explained that the move would help address the issues with fossil fuel engines.

He added that some of the challenges with waterways transportation have provided an opportunity for growth for them.

“Of course, there have been challenges, but we’ve had to be creative, and every time, challenges provide growth opportunities. We have had issues with fossil fuel engines. It’s clear that you need non-fossil fuel engines, very, very clear; we need it,” Emmanuel emphasised.

The LASWA GM mentioned that the agency is working towards infrastructure and financing, as well as training people as a way of improving waterway transportation.

He underscored the importance of a hybrid system engine that can be propelled by electric or even solar energy.

“It’s going to be a hybrid system; it can’t just be pure electric. It has to be a hybrid system. I want to say hybrid, and then when you have a hybrid system, electric goes along alongside solar and also a small compressed natural gas power,” he said.
