The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State. The minister highlighted Onanuga’s significant contributions to governance and her advocacy for women’s participation in politics.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim extended her condolences to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, and the constituents of Ikenne, Sagamu Remo. She praised Onanuga for her dedication to women empowerment and social welfare during her tenure in the National Assembly.
Onanuga, who passed away on January 15, 2025, served as the Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development in the 9th Assembly. Her commitment to women’s rights and empowerment left a lasting impact on her colleagues and constituents. She was re-elected in 2023 and assumed the role of Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly.
