Lawyer killed in crash after depositing mother’s remains in morgue

A tragic road accident along the Awka-Enugu Expressway in Anambra State claimed the life of a lawyer identified as Okechukwu on Sunday night. Reports indicate that the lawyer’s vehicle collided with an abandoned truck on the road before somersaulting into a nearby drainage.

According to a kinsman of the deceased, Okechukwu had recently deposited his late mother at the mortuary and was on his way back when the accident occurred. The kinsman shared that the lawyer, who had just welcomed a newborn with his wife, tragically lost his life in the incident, leaving his family and loved ones in shock.

The incident highlights the unpredictability of life and the importance of treasuring every moment. It also raises concerns about the dangers posed by abandoned vehicles on the road. The victim’s remains were taken to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue after the accident.

While some residents criticized the delay in removing the abandoned truck, the FRSC Anambra State Command, represented by Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, expressed condolences to the victim’s family. Alexander explained that the truck could not be towed immediately due to its load, and measures were taken to secure the scene and alert other motorists.

The FRSC emphasized the need for collaboration with the public to report emergencies and obstructions on the road promptly. Reflective tapes were used to mark the accident site until the truck could be safely removed. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while driving.
