LP asks court to recover defectee Reps emoluments

The Labour Party has taken legal action against defected lawmakers to declare their seats vacant and recover all salaries and allowances they have received. The National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, made this known in Abuja. The defection of a member to the ruling All Progressives Congress has led to six lawmakers leaving the LP. The party has filed a lawsuit to compel the National Assembly to declare the seats vacant and refund any benefits received post-defection. The House of Representatives witnessed a tumultuous session following the announcement of the defection. Various lawmakers expressed contrasting views on the defection, with some questioning its legitimacy. In a related development, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate and running mate in Bayelsa State, along with local government chairmen, also resigned from the party. They cited the need to pursue their political aspirations on a platform aligned with their vision for the state.
