In Olodo Community of Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State, a 20-year-old man named Akeem Sumonu was apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl. The arrest was made by officers stationed at the community security post after the survivor’s mother reported the incident. The survivor, known as Christiana, revealed that the suspect forcefully assaulted her daughter in October 2024 and threatened her to keep quiet about it. Despite the teenager’s silence due to the suspect’s intimidation, her mother eventually noticed changes in her behavior and injuries from the assault.
The state police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the victim disclosed the assault to her mother after she noticed unusual signs on her body. The suspect admitted to the violent act and coercion upon his arrest. The situation escalated when a medical examination confirmed the survivor’s pregnancy, suspected to be a result of the crime. The suspect is in police custody, awaiting further investigation once the case is transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
This incident echoes a similar case from March 2024, involving a pastor named Adeleye Dada accused of raping and impregnating a teenage church member in Ifo Local Government Area. The pastor allegedly misled the girl to another church under false pretenses.
