A 45-year-old man tragically drowned in a river at Odo Tente, a community on the Lagos-Ogun states boundary. The incident occurred around 11 am on a Friday. It was reported that the man, identified as Kazeem, had consumed a substance suspected to be Colorado, which caused him to behave erratically. Subsequently, he ran uncontrollably and leaped into the river, leading to his drowning.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday. According to Hundeyin, Kazeem’s actions under the influence of the substance resulted in his tragic death by drowning.
Detectives from the Alagbado Division visited the scene, documented the incident, and the deceased’s father requested an immediate riverside burial in accordance with their tradition. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
In a related development, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development expressed readiness to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to combat substance abuse among Nigerian youths. This partnership aims to raise awareness, provide rehabilitation, and offer skills training to young people affected by drug abuse.
