In Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, several communities were attacked by suspected bandits, resulting in multiple fatalities over the weekend. The affected villages included Aba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademekun. Reports indicate that numerous residents were killed, leading to the displacement of many others.
Law enforcement authorities responded to the situation, with officers dispatched to the area. As of Monday, at least 14 bodies had been recovered, and search operations were still ongoing. A local resident mentioned that the death toll could be higher, with bodies possibly remaining undiscovered in the surrounding bush.
The attacks began the previous week, culminating in a particularly severe incident on Friday night. Sunday, a resident, recounted the harrowing experience of the onslaught, highlighting the chaos and destruction inflicted by the assailants.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state acknowledged the incident, stating that investigations were underway, and measures were being taken to restore peace in the affected communities. The Regent of Ademekun Community also confirmed the tragic events, expressing dismay over the loss of 14 lives in her community.
She emphasized the urgent need for government intervention and heightened security presence to address the recurring threat posed by the attackers. The call for assistance was echoed at a town hall meeting, where the regent urged authorities to take swift action to protect the communities from further harm.
