The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army recently conducted clearance operations across the Niger Delta region, resulting in the dismantling of 34 illegal refining sites and the arrest of 11 suspected oil thieves. Over 80,650 litres of stolen crude and refined products were recovered during the operations carried out between November 18 and 24, 2024, in states such as Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom.
In Rivers State, troops deactivated eight illegal refining sites in the Buguma Creeks area, recovering more than 25,000 litres of stolen products. They also made discoveries in other areas, such as intercepting wooden boats carrying stolen crude and confiscating illicit products. Similar successful operations were conducted in different local government areas of other states like Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Akwa Ibom.
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Maj. Gen. Jamal Abdussalam, praised the troops for their efforts in ensuring the security of oil and gas resources. The operations led to the dismantling of illegal sites, arrests, and the recovery of stolen products, demonstrating a commitment to curbing criminal activities in the region and promoting increased production.
