The Military High Command has restated its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets against any form of destruction by individuals or groups. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, emphasized this stance during a press briefing in Abuja, addressing recent incidents of explosions on oil pipelines in Rivers.
Kangye highlighted the military’s proactive role in protecting the nation’s oil installations in the Niger Delta, emphasizing the dedication of commanding officers to fulfill their mandate. He assured that field commanders are closely monitoring activities and will conduct thorough investigations to address any security breaches.
Emphasizing the military’s zero tolerance for the destruction of critical infrastructure, Kangye affirmed the troops’ readiness to combat criminal activities. He reported significant successes by Operation Delta Safe in thwarting oil theft, recovering stolen crude oil and illegally refined products in the South South region. Additionally, the operation led to the dismantling of numerous illegal refining sites and the arrest of oil thieves and other criminals, with the recovery of weapons and ammunition.
Such operational achievements underscore the military’s commitment to protecting vital assets and ensuring national security.
