The government of Sokoto State has urged the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress to present its proposal for adjusting wages in response to the nationwide call for the implementation of the new minimum wage. The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir, conveyed this message during a meeting with labor union leaders in Sokoto, emphasizing the government’s dedication to executing the new minimum wage and ensuring a prompt harmonization process upon receiving the proposal.
In light of the recent directive from the NLC instructing workers in non-compliant states to strike by the end of November, there is a sense of urgency for states like Sokoto to comply. The Sokoto State NLC Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul, appreciated the government’s commitment to the wage adjustment and urged civil servants to stay calm as the union prepares to submit its proposal promptly.
Jungul praised the state government for its support in addressing workers’ welfare and expressed readiness to cooperate for a seamless implementation process. As the deadline approaches, Sokoto workers are hopeful for swift action from the government to meet the demands of the labor union and prevent industrial action.
