Monday joins Washington Spirits from Tenerife

Gift Monday, a forward for the Super Falcons, has signed a three-year deal with the Washington Spirits in the National Women’s Soccer League. She made the move from Tenerife in the Spanish women’s topflight league, as reported by Sports Extra.

The Washington Spirits confirmed the acquisition of Gift Monday, announcing that they triggered her release clause, which is estimated to be around €200,000 according to reports. The NWSL team revealed that they paid the transfer fee to UD Tenerife for the Nigerian forward.

Head coach Jonathan Giráldez expressed excitement about adding Gift’s unique qualities to the team’s attacking lineup. Monday, who spent two and a half years in Spain, showcased her talent by scoring 10 league goals and providing three assists in 19 matches during the 2024/25 season.

Before her time in Spain, Gift Monday played for Nigeria’s FC Robo and COD United Amazons. She was also the highest goal scorer in the NWFL in 2012 before moving to Spain.

Gift Monday shared her enthusiasm about joining the Washington Spirit, stating, “I am excited to join the Washington Spirit family as I have long wanted to play for the club.”
