MTN deepens Lagos partnership on smart city goals

MTN Nigeria has solidified its partnership with the Lagos State Government to advance the state’s smart city goals, focusing on digital infrastructure and enhanced service delivery. A pivotal project in this endeavor is the launch of the My Lagos App, a digital platform aimed at simplifying public services and enriching urban life. This app, introduced at a recent event in Lagos, offers residents instant access to transportation updates, emergency services, utility payments, business directories, and tourism details.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, who stood in for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the launch, hailed the app as a significant step in Lagos’ path towards becoming Africa’s leading smart city. According to Hamzat, technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity that can enhance governance, improve service delivery, and enhance the lives of Lagos residents.

MTN Nigeria’s CEO, Karl Toriola, highlighted the app’s potential to revolutionize urban management and public access to government services. Toriola emphasized the importance of digital solutions like the My Lagos App in sustaining economic growth and enhancing city governance, especially in a bustling metropolis like Lagos with over 20 million inhabitants.

Toriola noted MTN’s substantial investments in broadband infrastructure in Lagos and the construction of the largest data center in West Africa on the mainland. These efforts align with Lagos’ ambition to be Africa’s premier city. He stressed the company’s dedication to expanding its presence in Nigeria and Lagos, emphasizing the need for stakeholders to promote the app and integrate more solutions to maximize its impact.

The collaborative efforts between the Lagos State Government and MTN aim to leverage technology for improved governance, efficiency, and seamless access to essential services for all Lagos residents.
