NAFDAC destroys N1tn fake drugs, others in Anambra

The National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control recently disposed of counterfeit, substandard, and fake pharmaceutical products valued at over one trillion naira at the Anambra State Waste Management Authority Dump Site. The products included items like Analgin and controlled substances such as Tramadol 225mg. The Director General of the agency emphasized the commitment to ensuring the safety and effectiveness of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, packaged water, and drinks for consumers.

The agency confiscated the illicit drugs from markets in Onitsha and Aba. They reiterated their determination to eradicate substandard drugs and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of medicines in circulation. The destruction of the confiscated products was part of a month-long enforcement exercise aimed at eliminating fake drugs from the market.

The agency’s efforts were praised for safeguarding public health and preventing the circulation of harmful substances. The significant volume of illicit drugs seized during the exercise highlighted the magnitude of the issue and the potential risks associated with substandard medications. The agency assured the public of the authenticity and efficacy of medicines available in the market and encouraged vigilance in reporting any suspicious products.

Acknowledgment was given to the media for its role in creating awareness about the dangers of fake drugs. The Anambra State Waste Management Authority also commended NAFDAC for its actions in combating counterfeit drugs and emphasized the importance of continuous efforts to protect the population from the harmful effects of substandard medications.
