NAFDAC DG urges greater investment in women, children’s well-being

The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has called for increased investment in the well-being of women and children, describing it as crucial to building a healthier and more sustainable future for Nigeria.

Adeyeye made the call in a statement released on Sunday during the agency’s commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026 in Abuja.

The event, themed “Give to Gain,” celebrated the contributions of NAFDAC staff, particularly women, while highlighting their role in advancing public health and national development.

Speaking at the event, Adeyeye stressed the need to recognise women’s resilience and contributions, especially within institutions dedicated to safeguarding lives.

She said investing in women and children remains a vital component of national development and improved healthcare outcomes.

Adeyeye also spoke about NAFDAC’s Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Initiative, launched in November 2025, noting that the programme was designed to strengthen support systems for women and children across the country.

“The well-being of women and children must remain central to our development agenda if we are to build a healthier and more prosperous nation,” she said.

The event brought together NAFDAC staff and other stakeholders to reflect on the role of women in strengthening healthcare systems and promoting community well-being.

In her welcome address, the Head of the Reforms Unit, Mrs Joan Agbaagu, said the theme “Give to Gain” emphasised the importance of selfless service and collective commitment to improving the health of mothers, women, and children.
