The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has launched a project called the “NAFDAC-Catch Them Young Consumer Safety Club” in secondary schools to combat illicit drug abuse. The initiative aims to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and raise awareness about the menace of drug abuse in Nigeria. The Director-General of NAFDAC highlighted the importance of sensitizing young people to make informed decisions regarding drug use. The program focuses on educating students about the negative consequences of drug abuse, such as high-risk behavior, mental health disorders, and poor academic performance. NAFDAC’s goal is to create a future generation that upholds integrity and fights against drug abuse. Students are encouraged to join the club to support NAFDAC’s regulatory activities and combat drug abuse. Teachers are advised to provide a supportive environment for students to ask questions without judgment. The agency also conducts awareness campaigns for the public on the dangers of consuming illicit drugs. The project is expected to have a positive impact on students and contribute to creating a drug-free society. Students involved in the program have learned valuable lessons about self-reliance, resisting peer pressure, and avoiding drug use.
