NAFDAC seizes ₦300m fake drugs in Lagos

The discovery of counterfeit medicines worth ₦300 million was made by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control during a raid at Tyre Village in the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

According to a statement released by NAFDAC, the operation resulted in the confiscation of fake pharmaceuticals, including Amoxicillin 500 mg, Ampicloxa capsules 500 mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625 mg.

The estimated value of these counterfeit medicines is over ₦300 million, posing significant health risks such as treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to unknown ingredients.

The facility where the illegal medicines were found has been secured, and a suspect linked to the operation has been brought in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

NAFDAC also recently uncovered counterfeit alcohol packaging centers at Article Market, Abule-Osun, Lagos State, seizing items estimated at ₦2 billion.
