The National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed deep concern about the frequent kidnappings of students in tertiary institutions across the country. They are urging the Federal Government to take decisive action to address this issue, which has created a sense of insecurity on campuses.
The recent abduction of three female engineering students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State, has sparked outrage among students. The NANS is calling for swift efforts by security agencies to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators to prevent further incidents.
The NANS representative emphasized the need for improved security measures on university campuses to safeguard students, especially during night study sessions. The statement also highlighted the emotional distress faced by the abducted students and their families, underscoring the urgent need for their safe return.
As the voice of Nigerian students, NANS is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to organize nationwide protests if the abducted students are not rescued promptly. The association is calling on both federal and state governments to prioritize the safety of students and ensure that educational environments remain secure from criminal activities.
