Napoli has turned down a €65m bid from Galatasaray for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. Reports suggest that the Turkish club aimed to make Osimhen’s loan move permanent but failed to meet his €75m release clause. Although currently on loan with no buying option, Galatasaray holds a unique advantage with a compensation clause entitling them to €6m if Osimhen moves to another club in January. This effectively raises his release clause to €81m for other clubs during the winter transfer window.
The exclusive arrangement allows only Galatasaray to acquire Osimhen for €75m this month, while other clubs can trigger the same clause from the summer. Osimhen’s release clause was initially €130m but was reduced when he signed a new deal with Napoli before joining Galatasaray.
The Nigerian striker has been in exceptional form for Galatasaray, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists in 20 appearances during his loan spell. Osimhen has expressed his commitment to staying at Galatasaray until the end of the season, affirming that any discussions between Galatasaray and Napoli can involve him if needed.
His impressive performance in the 2022/23 season with Napoli, where he won the Serie A Golden Boot with 26 goals and helped Napoli secure their first league title in over three decades, has significantly boosted his reputation.
