NAPTIP rescued 285, arrested 22 human traffickers in 2024 -Kano Commander

The Kano Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons reported the rescue of 285 victims and the arrest of 22 human traffickers in 2024. The Zonal Commander, Mr Abdullahi Babale, shared this information in an interview. The rescued victims included 78 males, 97 females, and 110 children aged between seven and 42. Out of these victims, 53 were victims of trafficking while 232 were survivors of sexual abuse and gender-based violence. The victims received counseling, rehabilitation, and empowerment before being reunited with their families. The arrested suspects comprised eight males and 14 females. The command handled 211 cases involving various forms of human trafficking, child abuse, child labor, sexual abuse, and other offenses under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act. Additionally, 15 convictions were secured, including one foreign national. The command conducted sensitization programs and profiled 720 migrant returnees. Babale emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders to combat human trafficking and advised against risky overseas journeys in search of better opportunities. He also urged parents to safeguard their children and encouraged the public to report any suspicious cases of human trafficking in their communities.
