The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has decided to increase the 2025 budget proposal by N20 billion, citing economic challenges and inflation. The initial budget presented by Governor Abdullahi Sule of N382.57 billion was revised to N402.57 billion during the House proceedings. The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, revealed this information after the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Hudu A. Hudu, presented the report during the House proceedings.
The Speaker mentioned that the committee recommended the budget increase due to the significance of certain items in the budget and prevailing market inflation. He expressed confidence that once the budget is passed into law and signed, it would enhance economic activities and elevate the living standards of the state’s residents. The committee suggested a total budget size of N402,567,843,592.03 for the year 2025, with allocations of N166,384,435,542.25 for Recurrent Expenditure and N236,183,408,049.78 for Capital Expenditure.
The Speaker announced that the date for the third reading of the bill would be communicated to the House members in the future. During the proceedings, Majority Leader Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara moved for the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Minority Leader Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba. The House then unanimously approved the committee’s report.
Governor Abdullahi Sule had presented the N382.57 billion Appropriation bill labeled “Budget of Economic Growth and Stability” for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly on November 29, 2024.
