NCAA, travel agents agree on regulation

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has announced its acceptance of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies’ request for regulation of its members’ activities. The aviation regulatory authority will be initiating discussions to bring the group under its regulatory oversight. This decision was communicated by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Micheal Achimugu. The move aims to combat fraudulent practices among agents in the aviation industry.

Achimugu commended the agents for their proactive approach in seeking regulation, emphasizing the importance of protecting the reputation of agents and addressing quackery within the industry. The regulation will align the agents with other aviation stakeholders under the authority’s oversight, promoting transparency and professionalism.

NANTA President Yinka Folami confirmed the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance service quality and eliminate unscrupulous practices. While acknowledging that professional agents are already registered with the NCAA, Folami stressed that the new regulation would further safeguard passengers and improve industry standards. The regulation is expected to address issues like flight delays, cancellations, and the negative impact of fraudulent activities on the industry.
