The newly appointed Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Éric Chelle, has expressed his commitment to instilling an attacking mindset in the national team, emphasizing the importance of scoring in football. Chelle, a former player for the Aiglons of Mali, outlined his vision during his official introduction at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Acknowledging the significance of coaching one of Africa’s renowned football teams, Chelle expressed gratitude to his agent, the NFF, and all Nigerians for the opportunity. He emphasized his preference for an attacking style of play and his determination to guide the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, urged Nigerians to support Chelle and assured that the federation would provide full backing for his success. Gusau praised Chelle’s confidence and determination, expressing optimism in his ability to elevate the Super Eagles’ performance in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Chelle signed a two-year contract with the possibility of an extension based on the team’s performance. He entered the role with three assistants and is set to collaborate with them to enhance the Super Eagles’ reputation. Additionally, Chelle will oversee the Super Eagles B team in their preparations for the African Nations Championship before assuming his full coaching duties.
Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, endorsed the appointment of the Franco-Malian coach and commended the recruitment process led by the NFF. The event also saw the presence of notable figures such as Anthony Adeboye, Sharif Inuwa, Mohammed Sanusi, and Augustine Eguavoen.
