The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion under the Federal Government has successfully obtained 340 patent certificates for inventors and researchers in Nigeria since 2010. The Minister of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology announced this achievement during a ceremony in Abuja. A patent grants exclusive rights to inventors for their creations for a specified period. The Minister highlighted the significance of intellectual property and innovation in advancing industrialization and economic growth in the country. The Director General of NOTAP commended the agency’s efforts in simplifying the process of securing intellectual property rights for researchers and revealed that 31 patent certificates were issued during the event. NOTAP aims to support inventors in safeguarding and commercializing their innovations effectively through collaboration with the Patent and Design Registry. A beneficiary of the patenting process expressed gratitude to the government while also advocating for stronger policies to protect patent owners and inventors.
