In a recent court hearing before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, a forensic analyst named Babagana Musa Mingali testified about his findings regarding a mobile phone that belonged to a suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon. Babagana, a Chief Superintendent of Police and the second defense witness in the case brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, revealed that the phone was empty during his forensic analysis.
Prof. Ndifon and his lawyer are facing charges related to alleged sexual harassment, cybercrime, and an attempt to pervert the course of justice. The accusations include Ndifon asking a female student to send explicit images via WhatsApp and his lawyer allegedly threatening a prosecution witness.
During the court proceedings, Babagana shared details of his forensic analysis, explaining the tools used and the lack of relevant data on the phones. He mentioned the need to update WhatsApp applications for a more thorough analysis. Despite his experience in forensic analysis, Babagana admitted to not having documented proof of ICPC staff being posted to the NSA lab.
The court admitted the forensic report as evidence, and after Babagana’s testimony and cross-examination, the case was adjourned for further defense proceedings on April 3, 2025.
