In recent events, an attack occurred on an army base located near the Ehime Mbano Local Government Council secretariat in Imo State. Footage circulating online shows armed individuals launching an assault on the base, setting vehicles ablaze. The attackers can be heard in the video challenging the army and claiming the area as Biafra land.
Although attempts to reach the Imo State Police Command spokesperson were unsuccessful, a statement from the Assistant Director Public Relations 34 Brigade, Obinze, Owerri, confirmed the incident. The army thwarted the attack, preventing damage to the secretariat and repelling the assailants.
Reports also mention a separate incident in Umualumaku where gunmen ambushed and killed security agents, escalating tensions in the region. Eyewitnesses described a clash resulting in the burning of military vehicles during the attack.
