NOA unveils campaign to combat Lassa fever, sensitises Kogi residents

The National Orientation Agency has launched a sensitization campaign to combat the spread of Lassa fever in various states. The campaign, led by the acting State Director, aims to educate the public on preventing the disease from spreading further. Dekina Local Government Area has been selected as the venue for a town hall meeting to reach rural areas where the causes of the disease are prevalent.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of adopting preventive measures and personal responsibility in curbing the escalation of Lassa fever. While there is no vaccine for the disease, it can be prevented through good hygiene practices and avoiding contact with infected individuals or materials.

The Agency, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, is launching a nationwide preventive campaign to educate Nigerians on the risks and control measures of Lassa fever. They are utilizing various media channels and engaging community leaders to amplify prevention messages and mobilize grassroots support.

Nigerians are urged to support public health initiatives, take personal responsibility in preventing Lassa fever, and report any suspicious cases to health institutions. The efforts of stakeholders and the government in controlling Lassa fever and other communicable diseases were also acknowledged.

The campaign includes a roadshow that started at the State Secretariat and covered various local communities in the state capital.
