Nobody forced 1,000 disengaged staff to leave – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria recently clarified that the 1,000 staff members who left in December 2024 did so voluntarily through the Early Exit Programme. The CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, emphasized this during an investigative hearing in Abuja. The bank’s aim is to optimize its performance by aligning roles with individuals’ skills and the organization’s needs.

The restructuring and reorganization efforts are part of adapting to a digital world, creating both opportunities and redundancies. The Early Exit Programme aims to address issues like stagnation and lack of career progression. The program is voluntary, not mandatory, and is not limited to government agencies.

The Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee highlighted the importance of understanding the objectives behind the Restructuring, Reorganizing, and Early Exit Programme. The focus is on optimizing the organization’s structure and ensuring career progression for employees.
