Northern varsities top beneficiaries as NELFund disburses N20bn

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has announced the approval of N20,075,050,006.55 for disbursement to 192,906 students in public tertiary institutions across the country. The disbursement was completed as of January 1, 2025. According to the Managing Director of NELFund, Akintunde Sawyerr, the agency had previously disbursed N110 billion to students nationwide.

The latest disbursement will benefit various universities, with Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Maiduguri receiving the highest amounts. Other universities like the University of Jos, Federal University Dutsin-Ma, University of Ibadan, Federal University Dutse, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and the University of Lagos will also disburse funds to their students.

Institutions with fewer beneficiaries include Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga, Abia State Polytechnic, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Kenule Benson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Federal College of Education, Gidan Madi, Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Akwa Ibom, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, and Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri. Each of these institutions will provide financial assistance to a specified number of students.
