A well-known individual associated with the Boko Haram group, identified as Bochu Abacha, has voluntarily surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force stationed in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

An official statement released on a recent date by the Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, mentioned that the individual had acknowledged his involvement as a prominent Boko Haram member who had taken part in various operations in the Mongunu–Baga region of the state.

The statement highlighted, “During the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the Lake Chad area, a well-known Boko Haram operative named Bochu Abacha surrendered to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

“Bochu, a significant figure in numerous terrorist activities, confessed to his role as a notorious Boko Haram member involved in several Boko Haram/ISWAP operations along the Mongunu – Baga stretch.”

As per the statement, Bochu declared that he decided to surrender due to the relentless pursuit by the MNJTF and a loss of interest.

The statement also disclosed that Bochu had escaped from a Boko Haram base in Mussaram with his weapon.

“Among the items recovered from Bochu were an AK 47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, an Airtel SIM card, and the sum of N32,500. Currently, he is providing valuable intelligence to the authorities,” the statement added.

In a separate incident, Olaniyi reported that troops stationed in Gubio, in collaboration with intelligence units, successfully set up an ambush for Boko Haram members transporting a significant supply of logistics in three Toyota vehicles under the cover of darkness.

He stated, “Following intelligence on the terrorists’ route, the troops positioned themselves for an ambush, engaging the terrorists in a fierce confrontation.
