Reigning Nigeria Premier League champions Remo Stars claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over South-West rivals 3SC in Ikenne on Sunday, boosting their hopes of escaping relegation in a turbulent 2025/26 season, The reports.
Samuel Anaekwe scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute, securing Remo Stars’ 12th win of the season and moving them to 17th place on the table with 40 points. Despite the win, the Sky Blue Stars remain in the relegation zone on goal difference, with five matches left to play.
After winning their first-ever league title last season, Remo Stars have struggled for consistency this term, failing to mount a serious title defence. Their title-winning coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, stepped down after returning from the 2025 AFCON with the Super Eagles. Former Kano Pillars and Enyimba coach Usman Abdallah has been in charge since February, aiming to guide the team to safety.
Meanwhile, Kwara United strengthened their survival bid with a 3-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors. Goals from Junior Aimufua, Samsudeen Mohammed, and Abdulsalam Abdulsalam moved the Harmony Boys to 18th place with 39 points.
Bottom-placed Kun Khalifat secured a shock 1-0 victory on the road against Nasarawa United thanks to a late Stanley Otu goal in stoppage time, but they remain four points adrift of safety.
In other Matchday 33 action on Sunday, eight-time champions Rangers International moved to the top of the table despite a goalless draw at home against Barau FC. They are level on 55 points with Rivers United, who lost 2-0 to Warri Wolves.
Elsewhere, former champions Kano Pillars thrashed Bendel Insurance 4-0 at home. Goals came from Mustapha Jibrin, Chiedozie Okorie, Muhammad Aminu, and Bernard Ovoke for the Sai Masu Gida.
