The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ekiti State has apprehended 14 individuals on suspicions of economic-related crimes. The State Commandant, Mr. Paul Sosina, disclosed that the arrests were made in Ado Ekiti following proactive efforts by various units within the command. The suspects were detained after receiving complaints from the public, particularly business owners experiencing financial losses.
The State Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Afolabi, noted that the suspects were transferred to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further scrutiny. The offenses attributed to the suspects include criminal conspiracy, cybercrime, and obtaining goods under false pretenses. Items such as phones, motorcycles, keys, and jewelry were seized during the arrests.
Sosina emphasized that the suspects were involved in organized criminal activities like cyber fraud and deceitful money acquisition through digital means. He affirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to uphold integrity by firmly rejecting any form of bribery. Sosina also issued a stern warning that attempting to bribe NSCDC personnel would result in arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
