NSCDC arrests seven for theft, violence

Authorities from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps in Ilorin, Kwara State, have apprehended seven individuals suspected of engaging in illegal and violent activities related to a recent protest by motorcycle and tricycle operators against the rise in fuel prices.

A spokesperson for the command, Ayoola Shola, announced the arrests, revealing that a citizen named Olusegun Taiwo had filed a report at the NSCDC office in Ilorin regarding a theft incident.

According to the statement, “Taiwo recounted being robbed of her belongings, including a bag, phones, and other items, while commuting on a motorcycle to her workplace, allegedly by a gang of young individuals believed to be troublemakers.”

“The incident occurred on Thursday, September 5, 2024, leading to Taiwo’s report of a theft and conspiracy case at the NSCDC station in Kwara State.”

Following the complaint, NSCDC operatives took action and detained seven suspects linked to disruptive and unlawful behavior during the protest staged by commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders in Ilorin on the same day.

Shola mentioned that a thorough investigation exposed the arrested individuals as part of the group responsible for causing fear and public disturbance in Ilorin, notably in the Sango district.
