NSCDC arrests suspected vandal in Anambra

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Defence Corps has apprehended a suspect for damaging both public utilities and private properties within the state. The State Commandant of NSCDC, Maku Olatunde, issued a stern warning to individuals involved in such acts, commonly referred to as “ndi akpakara” or “iron kwandem”. Olatunde emphasized the need for these individuals to desist from their actions to avoid legal repercussions. The suspect, identified as Zakari Yahui from Bauchi State, was caught in the act of destroying and removing iron rods from a gutter in Onitsha with the intention of selling them as scrap. The suspect confessed to the crime, admitting to multiple incidents of vandalism and selling the stolen materials to a scrap vendor. The State Commandant has instructed the Intelligence/Investigation Department to carry out further inquiries, with the suspect facing eventual court charges. NSCDC is committed to ensuring that those responsible for damaging public and private properties are held accountable, along with anyone involved in the buying or selling of stolen materials. The Commandant reiterated the agency’s dedication to preventing sabotage and property destruction, whether by individuals or groups.
