The head of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, stressed the significance of professionalism and adherence to rules of engagement among 135 newly trained personnel. This was highlighted during the passing-out parade for the 2024 Batch A Basic Arms Training in Abuja. The training aimed to equip the officers with necessary skills and knowledge in weapon handling to effectively carry out the Corps’ mandate of safeguarding lives and property.
Dr. Odumosu emphasized that the rigorous training was crucial in preparing the officers for deployment to tackle issues like vandalism and other crimes affecting the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory and the entire nation. He reminded the officers of their ethical responsibilities and the importance of following rules of engagement while handling their rifles professionally.
The passing-out ceremony marked a milestone for the FCT Command as it was the first time the training was conducted solely by the Command’s own instructors. This initiative demonstrates the Corps’ dedication to providing top-notch security solutions within established guidelines.
Dr. Odumosu urged the officers to maintain vigilance, discipline, and to prioritize the protection of themselves, their rifles, and the lives and property of the public. He also highlighted the Command’s progress in combating vandalism and theft, with numerous arrests and court convictions achieved since the beginning of the year.
With the new batch of trained officers, the Command is poised to build on its successes in fighting vandalism and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the region.
