The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has announced the schedule for the funeral rites of his mother, Iyoba Ewuare II, who passed away 49 years ago. The delay in the burial rites was due to Benin customs, which required the Oba to ascend the throne before performing the rites. The funeral ceremonies will take place from February 15, 2025, to March 27, 2025, at Eguae Iyoba N’Uselu in Benin City. Traditional coral beads will not be used in the Palace and the Kingdom during this period as a sign of mourning. The Oba will conduct a private royal family ceremony to honor his mother in accordance with Benin customs and tradition.
