During a gathering with Rivers State stakeholders, accusations were made by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, against a former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili, for allegedly influencing Governor Siminalayi Fubara to defy President Bola Tinubu’s directives. Wike also expressed disappointment in Odili for the breakdown of a peace agreement between his faction and Fubara’s camp. The ongoing power struggle in the state between Fubara and Wike stems from their falling out as former allies turned adversaries.
In a recent event, Wike defended his governance, refuting Odili’s claims of turning the state into a personal estate. He highlighted his efforts to enhance the medical sector in Rivers State and asserted his belief that he is the state’s best governor. Additionally, Wike criticized Odili for not supporting reconciliation efforts and instead allegedly encouraging Fubara to disregard President Tinubu’s instructions.
Moreover, Wike expressed his stance against certain political figures, including his deliberate opposition to the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the party’s ex-chairman, Uche Secondus. The Minister also highlighted his winning streak in elections and reiterated his support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President.
Former Senator Magnus Abe also chimed in, accusing politicians backing Governor Fubara of undermining the FCT minister, claiming that anti-party activities were prevalent in the last election among various political figures in Rivers State, including Wike and the current governor.
