The Governor of Kogi State has given approval for a new minimum wage of N72,500 for civil servants in the state, effective immediately. Additionally, he has suspended the tax on this amount for one year.
This announcement was made during the unveiling of the new minimum wage after the signing of the agreement by the governor. The recent Minimum Wage Act mandates all states and employers to pay a minimum of N70,000 to their lowest-paid workers.
In his statement, the Governor emphasized the importance of implementing the new minimum wage promptly to assist workers in managing the current economic situation. The Chairman of the state’s Minimum Wage Committee highlighted that the agreement reached was for the benefit of the general public and not any specific political party.
The Committee Chairman expressed gratitude to the Governor for allowing autonomy in operations to achieve the common goal.
