The spouse of the Ogun State Governor has stressed the importance of providing unwavering support, care, and justice for victims of gender-based violence. She commended the state government for its initiative to establish a Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Ijebu Ode, aimed at offering support and care for survivors. During the unveiling of the SARC building, she praised the government’s commitment to creating a society where all survivors have access to necessary support.
As the Chairperson of the VAPP Law Management Committee, she shared insights gained from addressing cases of rape, sexual assault, and child abuse. She highlighted the significance of referral centers in providing survivors with immediate care, emotional support, and justice. The implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law has led to increased reporting of cases and successful prosecutions, empowering survivors and communities to stand against perpetrators.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development emphasized that the SARC represents hope, healing, and resilience for survivors of sexual violence. She called on all stakeholders to unite in the fight against sexual violence to create an inclusive society where survivors are empowered, perpetrators are held accountable, and everyone can live without fear or discrimination.
The World Bank team lead mentioned that the project supported by the World Bank aims to drive economic growth, improve the business environment, strengthen the agri-food value chain, upgrade skills, and address gender disparities. The Project Coordinator of OGSTEP highlighted the importance of gender-based interventions in assisting survivors to move forward and build a better future.
