‘Okuama treasurer died after family paid military N140,000 for transport’

The family of an 81-year-old man, the treasurer of a community in Delta State, who passed away in military custody, have provided details about the incident. The man was being transported by the military when he allegedly died.

The family shared that they had paid for fuel to transport their sick father from one city to another. They were instructed to receive him at a specific location but were later informed of his passing.

The family expressed disappointment that neither the military authorities nor the governor had reached out to them following the incident. This unfortunate event occurred shortly after another community leader had also passed away in military detention.

An individual criticized the governor for not intervening in the situation, highlighting the concerning pattern of leaders from the community facing hardships while in military custody.

The situation has raised alarms about the governance and security issues in the state, with calls for the governor to address the reported deaths and ongoing detention of other community leaders.
