Olukoyede flays lawyers hunting for clients at EFCC offices

The head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a recent statement, expressed concern over the unprofessional behavior of some lawyers who visit the commission’s premises. The chairman emphasized the importance of lawyers abiding by the ethics of their profession and not trying to influence investigations or bypass standard procedures.

During a visit by the Ibadan branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, the EFCC chairman highlighted the need for cooperation between the Bar and the EFCC for effective service delivery. The EFCC assured lawyers of collaboration in law enforcement activities while emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement.

The Bar Association chairman commended the EFCC for their reception and stressed the necessity of collaboration between the EFCC and the Bar in combating corruption. The Ibadan branch has established an “Anti-touting Committee” to investigate and penalize lawyers who engage in unethical practices.

Furthermore, the Bar Association chairman supported the EFCC’s policy of not allowing lawyers to act as sureties in anti-corruption cases, stating that such actions go against professional standards. The association requested an official channel of communication between the EFCC and the Bar to facilitate information sharing and address inquiries from lawyers effectively.
