In Northern Nigeria, a tuberculosis awareness and prevention campaign was launched by the Nigerian First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu. The initiative kicked off in Jigawa State, aiming to increase awareness and combat the spread of tuberculosis in the region.
During the campaign inauguration in Dutse, the Jigawa State First Lady highlighted the urgency of addressing tuberculosis in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to combat the disease. As part of the campaign, the wives of all 27 Local Government Area chairmen were appointed as TB Champions, tasked with spreading awareness at the grassroots level.
The event was attended by various stakeholders, including health organizations, experts, government officials, women’s groups, and representatives from the local government. The Acting Programme Manager at the Jigawa State Ministry of Health addressed the severity of tuberculosis in the state, stressing the importance of immediate action to tackle the issue.
A tuberculosis survivor shared her story at the event, emphasizing the significance of early detection and treatment. The campaign launch is expected to have a positive impact on combating tuberculosis in Jigawa State and potentially inspire similar initiatives in other Northern states to work towards a tuberculosis-free Nigeria.
