A pioneering initiative called ‘Road to LA 2028’ has been introduced by the Badminton Confederation Africa to prepare African badminton players for success at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In partnership with the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), the program aims to elevate African badminton and will kick off on December 1 at the Kano Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. The launch event will also commemorate Nigeria’s achievements in badminton at the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.
Francis Orbih, President of BFN and a Council Member of BCA, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing the importance of early preparation in grooming Olympic contenders.
The ‘Road to LA 2028’ initiative will focus on nurturing young talents, providing top-tier training, and securing resources for African athletes to enhance their global competitiveness.
Orbih highlighted Nigeria’s recent badminton achievements, notably pointing out that Anuoluwapo Opeyori made history by being selected as Team Nigeria captain, showcasing the sport’s growth in the country.
The launch event is expected to be attended by state governors, corporate sponsors, government agencies, and other key stakeholders from the Nigerian and African badminton community.
