Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo provided an update on his recovery from an injury that has kept him out of action since October 2024. He is currently in search of a new club as the summer transfer window approaches.
Omeruo underwent surgery in October after playing five league games in the 2024/25 season. Following his return to training in January, he has been without a club after mutually terminating his contract with Kasimpasa in Turkey. His last game for Kasimpasa was a 3-3 draw against Galatasaray before his injury.
Facing uncertainty about his club future, Omeruo is actively seeking a new team before the summer transfer window opens.
In a recent video shared on social media, Omeruo was seen training at his former club CD Leganese’s facility in Spain, hinting at a possible return to the Spanish club.
The 31-year-old player explained his departure from Turkey, stating, “After my surgery, my team needed to sign a new center back due to foreign player slots being filled. We mutually agreed to terminate my contract so I could focus on recovery and look for a new club.”
Omeruo, who began his career with clubs in Nigeria before moving to Chelsea in 2012, has played for teams in the Netherlands, Turkey, and Spain. He has had significant playing time at Leganes, where he spent five seasons before returning to Kasimpasa.
Since his senior debut for Nigeria in 2013, Omeruo has been a key player, earning 69 caps and scoring one goal for the national team.
