Ondo youths attack police station over colleague’s death

In Ifon Community, located in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, a crisis erupted when some youths protested the death of an individual known as Tobi while in police custody.

The incident stemmed from a clash between two youth groups on Valentine’s Day, leading to the arrest of Tobi and another individual. Subsequently, rumors spread that Tobi had died while in police custody, sparking outrage among his friends.

The enraged youths then took action by storming the Divisional Police Station, driving out the officers on duty, and setting the station ablaze. They also targeted the home of the person who reported the case, burning down the house.

In response to the situation, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, visited the community to address the unrest and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Commissioner condemned the violence and pledged to ensure that those responsible would face legal consequences. He highlighted the need for a comprehensive inquiry to uncover the events leading to the unrest.

During the visit, the Commissioner engaged with local leaders and community stakeholders to express condolences to the deceased’s family and emphasize the importance of upholding the rule of law.

Afolabi urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigative process to unfold, promising updates as progress is made in the case.
