One rescued as gunmen attack Anambra vigilantes

A member of a vigilante group was rescued during an attack by unidentified gunmen along the Amesi-Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday night.

The attack resulted in one member of the vigilante group being injured and their operational vehicle being set on fire.

Anambra State Police Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a press statement on Monday, stating that the police promptly responded to the attack and rescued the injured vigilante member.

The injured individual was quickly taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Ikenga mentioned that the police secured the area to prevent the gunmen from looting properties during the incident.

He stated, “The joint security forces swiftly responded to the attack on members of the Anambra State Vigilantes and rescued a wounded operative along the Amesi-Uga Road. The injured person is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and patrols have been increased in the area to prevent further criminal activities.”

During the exchange of gunfire, the vigilante group’s Toyota Frontier Van was destroyed when bullets hit its fuel tank, causing it to catch fire.
