Opposition berates Kaduna gov over attack on Tinubu’s critics

Various political figures including a presidential candidate, a lawyer, and an activist have criticized Kaduna State Governor for his recent remarks against opposition politicians. The governor had expressed disapproval of opposition politicians forming a coalition to challenge the current president and his government’s policies. In response, the opposition leaders defended their right to form coalitions and criticize policies, stating that it is essential for a healthy democracy.

The governor’s comments were met with strong opposition, with critics accusing him of pandering to the ruling party and lacking the moral authority to condemn coalitions, given his past involvement in similar movements. They emphasized the importance of vibrant democratic participation, respectful dialogue, and issue-based campaigns leading up to the upcoming elections.

The human rights activist also condemned the governor’s remarks as unfounded and anti-democratic, while the coordinator of the Obedient movement expressed disappointment in the governor’s stance against coalitions despite benefiting from them in the past. Opposition figures vowed to continue highlighting the shortcomings of the current administration and stressed the significance of a robust opposition in a democratic society.

Critics of the governor’s comments argued that forming coalitions is a legitimate strategy for opposition parties to enhance their electoral chances and that stifling dissenting voices undermines the democratic process. They called for a focus on delivering good governance and addressing economic challenges instead of limiting democratic space.
