Following the recent Osun Local Government election, chairmen from the All Progressives Congress party have returned to their council secretariats under tight security measures. Council officials were seen resuming their duties at various local government headquarters. Security was heightened with armed police and Civil Defence officers stationed at key points around the state. Despite the security presence, normal business activities continued in the state capital.
In an interview, Jamiu Olawumi, a former Special Adviser on Education, shared that all chairmen and councillors had resumed work across the 30 local government areas in Osun State. He mentioned that directives had been issued for local government staff to return to work promptly.
Governor Ademola Adeleke had advised chairmen and councillors not to resume at their council offices yet during a swearing-in ceremony. Prior to the election, the Nigeria Labour Congress had instructed workers to stay home due to disputes between Adeleke and the APC in the state.
The state APC chairman, Kola Olabisi, was contacted for a response but had not replied at the time.
