Osun confirms two cases of mpox

The Osun State Government has confirmed two cases of monkeypox in the Ilesa West Local Government Area. The cases involve a five-year-old and a 25-year-old male who are currently receiving treatment at the State Hospital in Ilesa West. The State Commissioner for Health assured residents that the government is actively managing the situation and urged them not to panic.

The Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre pillar in Osogbo discussed the situation, emphasizing that there is no need for alarm. The government successfully handled previous health challenges like COVID-19 and cholera and is now focused on preventing the spread of monkeypox. Stakeholders will meet regularly to strategize on containment measures.

The State Epidemiologist reported a total of 47 suspected cases across 13 Local Government Areas, with two confirmed cases in Ilesa West. Measures to prevent the spread include deploying Rapid Response Teams, conducting advocacy and sensitization campaigns in affected communities, and actively searching for cases in the community and health facilities. The government remains committed to proactive measures in safeguarding public health.
