Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State emphasized the importance of maintaining continuity in governance during the commissioning of Road 24 in Yenagoa as part of Governor Douye Diri’s five-year anniversary in office. Otu, who also serves as the Vice-Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, commended Diri for finishing projects initiated by the previous administration led by Senator Seriake Dickson.
Otu highlighted the significance of completing ongoing projects for development and praised Diri for focusing on finalizing existing projects rather than abandoning them for new ones. He underscored the role of infrastructure in driving development, stating that without proper roads, economic activities and government revenue generation would be hindered.
As part of the day’s activities, a medical outreach was held at the Ikarama Cottage Hospital in Okordia Clan, Yenagoa Local Government Area, to enhance healthcare services for residents in alignment with the ASSURED Agenda. Diri mentioned that the outreach provided various medical services and interventions, particularly focusing on maternal and child health, to vulnerable populations, including neighboring communities in Rivers State.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe, mentioned that medical staff were dispatched to all communities in Okordia Clan to carry out consultations and minor surgeries. Complex cases would be referred to appropriate healthcare facilities. Brisibe emphasized the right to access healthcare and encouraged Bayelsa residents to make use of the medical outreach services.
