Oyo NLC hails Makinde over 13th-month pay

Workers in Oyo State were delighted to receive their 13th-month salary as promised by Governor Seyi Makinde. The payment, which came after the December salary and wage award, demonstrates the governor’s dedication to the welfare of the state’s workers.

The Chairman of the state Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Kayode Martins, commended the governor’s commitment, stating that this is the sixth consecutive time such a gesture has been made by the Seyi Makinde administration.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the workforce and pensioners in Oyo State, he emphasized Governor Makinde’s reputation as a governor who prioritizes the interests of workers.

In a recent statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, revealed that despite the annual expenditure of N77bn on salaries and wages, the governor approved the payment of the 13th-month salary and the N80,000 minimum wage.

The government is set to increase its annual spending on salaries and wages to N143bn starting from January 1, 2025, in compliance with the new minimum wage, marking an 86% rise in salaries and wages.
